The Fearsome Army Of Ants

This is the most dangerous species of ants in the world. It sounds incredible, but a colony of these ants can eat the whole wild horse in just a few hours. Length of ant soldiers varies from 8 to 12 millimeters. They are very adaptable to different temperatures and are able to withstand very high temperatures. They have large jaws in relation to their size. They live in colonies which number over 700.000 individuals. Such colonies can eat much larger animals than themselves. They attack everything they come across their path, in large groups of several hundred thousand individuals. In each ant colony, there is one ant who’s called the Queen. The queen lays 100.000 to 300.000 eggs a year. They are mostly active during the day. They feed on the wasps, the smaller ants and other small insects. Natural enemies of these ants are termites and birds. These ants belong to the animal migrants. If their environment is short on food, the whole colony moves into regions rich in food for them. Ants’ soldiers inhabit rainforests in Central and South America. South American natives used a strong bite of these ants to treat wounds.
